New World Timber

Environment

Responsible sourcing, serious credentials

Timber is a renewable resource — but only if managed properly. Here's how we approach responsible sourcing.

FSC® Certified PEFC Certified
Sustainable forestry

FSC® Certification

Forest Stewardship Council® certified options

We offer FSC® certification across some of our products, with full chain of custody from certified forests to your order. FSC® certification is the globally recognised standard for responsible forest management.

When you specify FSC® certified timber through us, you're supporting forests that are managed to environmental, social, and economic standards that protect biodiversity, workers' rights, and local communities.

For projects requiring FSC® chain of custody, please ask when enquiring.

What FSC® means

The Forest Stewardship Council® sets standards for responsible forest management worldwide. FSC® certified forests are managed to protect biodiversity, maintain water quality, prevent illegal logging, and uphold the rights of local communities and workers.

The FSC® chain of custody certification tracks timber from certified forests through every stage of processing, manufacturing, and distribution — including to us, and through to you.

Specifying FSC® on your project

If your project requires FSC® certified timber — whether for planning conditions, client requirements, or BREEAM/LEED credits — tell us when you enquire. We'll confirm FSC® availability for your species.

PEFC Certification

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification

We are PEFC certified, offering chain of custody across our softwood range and selected panel products. PEFC is the world's largest forest certification system — particularly strong in European softwood producing countries.

PEFC operates by endorsing national forest certification standards, meaning it directly reflects the forest management requirements of the country of origin — including the Scandinavian and Baltic countries where we source most of our softwood.

For projects requiring PEFC certification, let us know when ordering.

What PEFC means

PEFC endorses national forest certification systems that meet its benchmark standards. It's the most widely used certification scheme in Scandinavia and the Baltic states — the primary source regions for European softwoods including Redwood and Whitewood.

PEFC and FSC are complementary, not competing. Both require responsible forest management and chain of custody. Many UK construction and housing clients accept either certification.

FSC® vs PEFC

Both schemes require responsible forest management. FSC® is more commonly specified in commercial and retail sectors; PEFC is widespread in house building and construction. If your project specifies either, we can supply accordingly — ask when enquiring.

Our Approach

Responsible sourcing as a standard

01

Verified suppliers

We source from established suppliers with known forest management practices. We don't buy from unknown sources, and we monitor our supply chain for compliance with UK and EU timber regulations.

02

UK Timber Regulations compliance

We operate in compliance with the UK Timber Regulations (UKTR), which require that timber placed on the UK market is legally harvested and traded. Due diligence is maintained across our supply chain.

03

Timber as a renewable resource

Properly managed timber is one of the most genuinely renewable building materials available — it sequesters carbon during growth, requires relatively low energy to process, and is biodegradable at end of life. We believe in using timber responsibly, not avoiding it.

04

Accoya® — a case for modified wood

Accoya® is FSC® certified and made from sustainably managed radiata pine — a fast-growing species. The acetylation process is non-toxic and the finished product has an extremely long service life, reducing replacement frequency and whole-life environmental impact compared to tropical hardwoods in external applications.

Modern Slavery

Modern Slavery Act Statement

In compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we publish an annual statement setting out our approach to identifying and preventing modern slavery in our business and supply chain.
