Modern Slavery Act Statement

Financial year ending 2025

Introduction

This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps taken by New World Timber Limited to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in our business or supply chains.

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, and human trafficking. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our supply chains.

About our business

New World Timber Limited is an independent importer and distributor of hardwood, softwood, and panel products, operating from Exeter, Devon. We supply trade customers across Devon and the South West of England.

Our supply chain includes timber mills and panel product manufacturers primarily in Europe, Scandinavia, and West Africa, along with UK-based logistics and delivery partners.

Our supply chains

We recognise that timber supply chains can be complex and geographically dispersed. Our primary supply chain risks relate to:

  • Timber harvesting operations in regions with less developed labour standards
  • Processing and milling operations in certain geographies
  • Logistics and haulage partners

We mitigate these risks by sourcing from established, reputable suppliers with documented standards, prioritising FSC® certified timber where available, and maintaining ongoing supplier relationships with a preference for transparency.

Due diligence processes

We take the following steps to identify and address the risk of modern slavery in our operations and supply chain:

  • We source from suppliers who hold recognised certifications (including FSC®) where available, which include labour standards requirements
  • We comply with the UK Timber Regulations (UKTR), which require due diligence on the legality of timber entering the UK market
  • We review our supplier relationships periodically and raise concerns where labour standards are in question
  • We do not knowingly work with suppliers who use forced or compulsory labour

Our policies

We are committed to ensuring there is transparency in our own business and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains. We expect the same high standards from all of our contractors, suppliers, and other business partners. Any concerns about modern slavery in our operations or supply chain should be reported to us directly at sales@newworldtimber.com.

Training

We ensure that all staff involved in procurement and supplier management are aware of the risks of modern slavery in our supply chains and their responsibilities in identifying and reporting concerns.
